Musicians for Life

❤️ this pic! Fall 2001 (I think…) with freshman band member Ms Aimee, LHAB member Ms Noelle, and baby Brynn! (She’s 18 now!!!)

You might see me wearing my vintage retired (oh my!) James Avery longhorn earrings a lot this fall….I’m getting pretty excited about attending the Longhorn Alumni Band (LHAB) Day November 17th.  I think Ms. Aimee and I last went in 2009, so it’s been almost 10 years!  Most people are surprised to find out that the LHAB actually marches (and plays!) during halftime at one of the home games at Royal Memorial Stadium every year.  Did you know that LHAB is the largest in the world – with over 2600 members worldwide?  I am looking forward to seeing my band friends and I especially like getting to be in the stands with my sister, Ms. Aimee – we’re 10 years apart so we weren’t ever in band together.

We’re all musicians for life – somehow you never forget how to play those traditional songs that you probably played hundreds of times – and somehow we always manage to put together a show with just one marching rehearsal.  I have so many memories from my time in LHB and I still keep up with many of my band friends.

My son, Steven, is now a sophomore in the Winston Churchill Charger Band and I have enjoyed getting to go to high school football games again.  I’ve been thinking about my time in high school and college band and know that it helped me so much during that time.  Adjusting to a big high school and an even bigger college is difficult – but being in band meant that I already had a group that I belonged to – before school and classes had even started!

Now, going back to alumni band, I’m still part of this group – even if they might have new traditions, the old ones are still there!  I can’t wait to march down the hill into the stadium to all my favorite drum cadences.  Ms Aimee and I are busy trying to get back in shape – playing our instruments! – so don’t be surprised if you hear “Texas Fight” or“March Grandioso” inbeteeen classes 😉 Go Horns!
