Private Lesson PolicyJensen's Yamaha Music School is pleased to offer private lessons for our customers. Private piano lessons are offered on a stand-alone basis for adults and older children, or as supplemental instruction for children enrolled in our group classes. Private lessons may also be offered for voice or other instruments depending on instructor abilities and customer interest. FrequencyGenerally, private lessons are scheduled for one lesson each week the school is open and continue indefinitely. You may discontinue private lessons at any time by providing written notice. A group lesson instructor may also suggest one or more ad-hoc lessons if he/she feels a student would benefit from some additional assistance to keep up with others in the class.CostThe cost for a 30-minute private lesson is $20.00. Students who are also enrolled in a group class receive a $5.00 discount, making their cost $15.00. 15 minute lessons are also offered for younger students taking group classes at a cost of $7.50 / lesson.Instructor availability, cancellations and no-showsJYMS guarantees that an instructor will be available for all scheduled private lessons. Therefore, we require payment for each scheduled lesson. If an instructor is unavailable and a suitable substitute cannot be found, the cost of this lesson may be refunded (see Refunds). If a student cancels a lesson and notifies the instructor in advance, this lesson can be made up by mutual agreement between the student and instructor. However, no refunds will be made for cancellations or no-shows.Payment schedule (September - May)To facilitate scheduling, private lessons must be paid in advance. From September through May, payments are due the 1st of each month as follows:
These payments cover three lessons per month, plus one additional lesson every 90 days. Customers who pay group lesson tuition on a quarterly, semester, or yearly basis may wish to prepay for private lessons on the same schedule. Summer schedule (June - August)The school is open for eight weeks from June through August. For billing purposes, we continue to bill the same monthly amount for June and July. However, no private lesson tuition is payable in August. Two payments are due as follows:
We assume that students will continue with private lessons during summer months unless we receive written notice. If a student stops taking private lessons during the summer they can resume in the fall. However, we cannot guarantee that the same date, time, and/or instructor will be available when lessons recommence. If a new student begins private lessons in August they pay the regular rate for each August lesson ($20/$15/$7.50) and begin monthly billing in September. RefundsOn an annual basis, the advance payments shown above will cover 30 lessons (May - September) and 7 lessons (June - August). Although JYMS is open 34 weeks / school year and 8 weeks in summer (42 weeks total), we only bill for 37 lessons anticipating holidays, instructor illness, etc. You will not be expected to pay for any excess lessons as long as you make monthly payments each month you receive private instruction. At the end of the summer (August), or at the time you discontinue private lessons, if earlier, you may request a refund if you paid for more lessons than you received (keeping in mind that customer cancellations and no-shows count as a lesson "received" if an instructor was available). This request must be made in writing and must provide detail supporting the claim. |
